The clients of this project have been in their current home for the last 30 years, and when it came time to downsize, they weren’t ready to say goodbye. Now grandparents, they’re reinventing their property, converting their existing garage and workshop into a coach house, enabling their daughter and son-in-law to move into the family home with the next generation. Multi-generational living at its best, the new grandparents are creating a space where they can age-in-place with their family a stone’s throw away on the site they’ve called home for so long.

 

The existing 1400 sq ft garage and workshop is transformed into a comfortable open plan, single-level home with clever space usage and storage solutions to maximize the functionality of their downsized space. This modern garden cottage blends rustic charm with contemporary elements resulting in a warm and sophisticated space, filled with natural light and garden views.

The existing large double garage and workshop is transformed into comfortable open plan home with clever built-in storage solutions for the items meaningful to the owners. The project reuses the majority of the single storey garage structure, converting it to a thoughtfully designed coach house that maintains existing skylights and windows while providing a bright and individual home.
