The intersection of two gables
Project type Residence, renovation
Location Pemberton Heights, North Vancouver, British Columbia

After purchasing this 1948 residence, our clients were most enamoured by the story of the previous owners and their beloved family home. It was important to respect and highlight its character while providing additional space for the growing young family.
The addition contains a third bedroom on the upper level, offering their two children each a space of their own, and an expanded primary bedroom with new ensuite. It is thoughtfully integrated with the existing home and aligns with primary structural elements to simplify the complexity of the renovation. The gabled roof - symbolic of the home's minimal traditional style - is intersected with a second, orienting the primary suite toward the North Shore mountain views.

The exterior of the home is fully re-clad with the roof replaced and extended, further enhancing the character of the home to better suit the sought-after neighbourhood's context. A portico is added to the front of the home, defining the main entry and echoing the roof forms above.
