On a rocky site abutting a creek, two peaks emerge from the landscape. Joined by a central axis, the split plan of the home provides a clear delineation between the private and more public spaces of the home. Our clients’ goal was to create a space that provided both large social spaces to host get-togethers and entertain as well as separated zones for their bedrooms and quiet places to work and study at home.
The natural grade and slope of the site was leveraged allowing for connection and the privacy they desired. The client's aesthetic straddled a modern take on a classic shape. The design mimics traditional peaked roof forms that further identify the delineation of the home while nodding to more traditional applications of natural materials that offer an intentional connection to place and site.
The main level features a large vaulted great room and kitchen, gallery, and access to a private guest suite for the children’s live-in grandmother. A library on the upper level is open to the forest and sky above, bridging the children’s bedrooms and primary suite. The lower split hosts a fourth bedroom, workspace, family media room and gym.
